RH Phillips '05 Cabernet Sauvignon Night Harvest

A little while back, a reader asked us to recommend a Cabernet Sauvignon, and we listed this bottle as this has been one of Rachel's favorites for a while now.

Out of the bottle, the wine has a deep dark purple color. There is a nice aroma of black cherry plus a bit of a woodsy scent. The mouth feel is nice, fairly heavy due to the 13.5% alcohol and overall the flavor is very well balanced between hints of ripe berry and just the right amount of spice. Great finish too! This would pair well and can stand up to most any spicy food, red meat, or any other strong flavored foods. For under $10, you will have a hard time finding another Cab Sauv as well balanced as this one.

This wine gets it's 'Night Harvest' name as the RH Phillips Winery had their first harvest back in '83 and rather than pick the grapes in the sun, waited until nightfall. And now, as a matter of tradition, have done so ever since.

With our next bottle of Night Harvest, we'll be making a batch of this cocktail listed on the Night Harvest website which includes among other things, vodka, Cab Sauv of course, berries, and powdered sugar. How could you go wrong?

Drink Repeatedly,

-Gregg

I agree with your comments on Night Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon - nicely balanced, very drinkable, and a good value. Maybe other wineries should do their picking at night!
